November 20-26

We are taking the week off for Thanksgiving Break

November 12-19

Math: Sullivan did his math workbook. He is working on solid figures and subtraction. Simon, Sarajoy and Daisy did lessons in Teaching Textbooks.

Language Arts: Each of the kids does typing instructor, a journal entry, and a language assignment each day. Simon is really excited he started Fablehaven and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Sullivan is nearly finished with A Knight at Dawn, and Sarajoy decided to start Animal Ark Books. This week Daisy read Edenbrooke to Sarajoy as well.

History: We read from our Cricket magazines. Each of the kids is reading literature related to history. We explored an antique museum with artifacts from American History.

Science: The kids played in the leaves and snow. We read from our science magazines. We visited a hot springs and spent a day at a farm.

Music: Each child is working in their Suzuki book and practices piano daily. We are studying John Williams the composer.

Technology: The kids have discovered and downloaded several new video games. They spend time chatting with friends and each other on Google hangouts.

Nov 5-11

Math: This week Simon had a lot of questions about algebra and how to use letters in math. Daisy, Simon , and Sarajoy did Teaching Textbooks and Sullivan used his Grade 1 workbook.

Language Arts: Daisy caught up on her Speech and Debate homework after spending a week at her cousins farm. They inspired her to read more too. Simon, Sarajoy, and Sulli keep plugging along with Daily reading and journal writing. They like writing to their brother in Mexico. I started reading Little House in the Big Woods to Sarajoy and Indian in the cupboard to the boys.

Science: We read about turtles and owls in our Zoobooks magazine. We got our first snowfall so we talked about weather and played in the snow.

History: We explored  our history magazine for the first time. We love reading our American themed literature about Natives and settlers.

Music: Everyone is working hard on their Suzuki songs. we play Amazing Grace and Beauty and the beast as a group. We sing together every week, and each of the kids practiced piano daily. Daisy has especially been inspired by her cousins to practice more.

Technology: Sarajoy did a power point presentation on New York for our Geography group. She loves playing with her goldiblocks. Simon is always asking and figuring things out on the computer. He has been especially interested in music playlists lately. He lives playing games online with his cousin in Idaho. Daisy keeps working on photography skills and Sullivan loves all the building sets. This week he did a hangouts chat online with Mom as well.

October 29-Nov 5

Math: Sullivan had a hard time figuring out one of his math activities this week, but he felt really proud when he figured it out. Simon was excited that he can now add faster than his friend. He feels really good about his progress in math using Teaching Textbooks.  He's excited to get to division. Sarajoy and Daisy continue their Teaching Textbook lessons

Language Arts: Daisy placed 7th in Impromptu at her first speech and debate competition! The kids each do a daily journal entry, grammar lesson, and read aloud. Sarajoy finished The Courage of Sarah Noble.

History: Sullivan was an Indian (Native American) for Halloween.  His dad was a mountain man.  The kids enjoy learning about and playing Native American toys and props. They are also each reading a book out loud that relates to history.

Science: The kids made a big pile of leaves and jumped off the retaining wall into it.  Ranger Rick is helping them learn about a lot of animals. Simon and his friend did a bunch of experiments with baking soda and vinegar.  Their favorite was the exploding water bottle.

Music: The kids each practice from their Suzuki book each day. Working on Beauty and the Beast and Amazing Grace as a group.

Technology: Simon is having so much fun on Tynker! We got a new Tinker crate in the mail. Sullivan and Sarajoy love the math manipulatives that they call "Minecraft Blocks." They have all been having fun with Minecraft and Google Hangouts.
